인터넷 익스플로어 7 설치 제거 (Uninstall Internet Explorer 7)

I just installed Internet Explorer 7 (new release) on Windows 2003 Server with SP1, but after the installation my machine reported an error regarding User32.dll and Shlwapi.dll. Everything is OK except Explorer.exe. You know, [wp]Explorer[/wp].exe process is the most important process in Windows sub-system. It manages services, windows, and so on. Shortly, you cannot use your machine without starting up Explorer process.



To fix the problem, I opened the command line window (cmd.exe) and dig into the back-up folder to find out which DLLs I need to restore as it was. I couldn't, however, determine which DLLs are the lastest dlls. Also you know if you want to restore your machine's state as before, you need to restore not only Dlls, but also registry. Fortunately, I could open 'Program Installation/Uninstallation' control widget and uninstall IE 7. :-)



FYI, if you have a problem after the installation of IE 7, you can fix it by yourself like followings.



1. Open Task Manager by clicking Ctrl+Shift+Esc on your keyboard.

2. Select File | New Task menu and enter AppWiz.cpl in the text box.

3. Select Internet Explorer 7 in the list and click the Uninstall button.

Windows 2003 Server에 IE 7을 설치했는데, 재부팅하고 나서 로그온까지 하면 User32.DLL과 SHLWAPI.DLL에서 재배치 문제로 인한 오류가 발생하여 Explorer.exe가 실행되지 않습니다. 다른 서비스들은 모두다 실행되는데, explorer.exe만 실행이 안됩니다. 사실 Windows에서는 explorer.exe가 우리가 보고 다루는 창들을 관리하기 때문에 저놈이 오류가 발생하면 아무것도 할 수 없다라고 보시면 되겠습니다.

부랴부랴 콘솔 창을 띄워서 복구 작업에 들어갔는데, 서비스 팩이나 각종 업데이트를 할 때마다 저 DLL들을 백업하기 때문에 정확하게 어느 놈을 복구해야 하는지 감을 못 잡겠더군요. 그래서 이리저리 파일 복사해보다가 그냥 제어판의 '프로그램 추가/삭제'를 띄워서 삭제한 후 재부팅했더니 원상태로 복구 되더군요. 다행입니다.

Windows 2003 Server에서 IE 7을 설치한 후, 재부팅이 안된다면 다음과 같은 방법으로 복구할 수 있습니다.

1. Ctrl + Shift + ESC 키를 눌러 작업 관리자를 띄운다.

2. 파일 | 새 작업 (실행...)  메뉴를 선택한 후, AppWiz.cpl 을 입력한다.

3. 프로그램 추가/삭제 창에서 Internet Explorer 7을 선택한 후, 언인스톨한다.



오늘 하루 씨껍할 뻔 했습니다. ;-)
